Meet Nat

Hi, I’m Nat. British born but feel most at home in New Zealand. I’m a wedding and elopement photographer residing in beautiful Wanaka, deep in the Southern Alps.

From a young age I knew I was never destined to stay forever in the UK and after my mum asked me “what do you want to do when you grow up?”. I’m pretty sure my answer “move to Australia” wasn’t exactly what she had in mind.

Fast forward a few years and here we are, in New Zealand. Not quite Australia, but it was the promise of fewer poisonous and sharp-toothed wildlife locals that may or may not have been the swing vote for that decision.

I love being in the mountains — nature really is therapy. I’ve been known to go mute whilst gesturing wildly in the direction of another “nature boner” vista or weather event that excites the eye balls. I also love trees (especially Pohutukawa) and all things green, but will always seek out the ocean if given the chance.

I didn’t come from a photography background, instead having studied sports science in Swansea, the graveyard of ambition (thanks to the poet Dylan Thomas for that tagline). Sure enough my sports science dream fizzled out and the University’s proximity to the ocean (that being the main reason I chose it in the first place) became pivotal in this hand break turn of a life decision.

My photography obsession started on those Gower beaches, as did plans to travel the world with a fellow course mate. I’m a true believer that everything happens for a reason and this move to New Zealand really cemented my passion for photography and the arts.

I’m a lover of light and shadow, texture and movement, the little details, the mundane and the ordinary, for nothing is perfect but I strive to capture life’s imperfections perfectly.

The Run in the Shadows Experience

There’s a lid for every teapot. You shouldn’t have to bend to try and fit a certain mould, and the same goes for your wedding.

I’m very much an advocate for ‘you do you’. You’ll want to look back in years to come and be proud of what you created. An incredible environment that brought your closest family and friends together to celebrate your relationship in a way that aligned with you and your values.

Whether that be just the two of you ditching the crowds and fleeing into the mountains, or going all out and throwing one hell of a party whilst surrounded by your nearest and dearest. Most importantly I want you to have fun and relax whilst absorbing everything the day throws at you.  Time passes you by in the blink of an eye, which is why I want to make sure I’m there to padlock those visual memories into tangible keepsakes.

My style is documentary, with editorial hints. I love analogue photography; the beauty in the grain and the timeless nostalgia it emulates, which is why my editing style reflects this. I’ll look for the small details that otherwise go unnoticed. I’ll search for that perfect slither of light and get genuinely excited for stormy skies or the golden glow that sunset brings.

Whatever your vision, I’d love to be there to capture it for you. Consider what’s most important for you, and get in touch if you would like me to be part of your celebration.
