Katy & Tom
Queenstown Sunrise Elopement
Katy & Tom wanted to do things a little differently. When Katy first emailed she mentioned that a big white wedding dress wasn’t her style and neither was a huge celebration in front of 100’s of people. They’d been travelling round New Zealand in a camper van after having lived in Australia for a while and decided to get hitched here beneath the mountains before they head back off to the UK. A low key ceremony next to the lake at sunrise was more than perfect for these two. I met them in the car park at Bob’s Cove and Tom drank coffee whilst Katy packed up a bag which consisted of wedding rings, cake and a change of footwear. We walked the 20 minutes to the top of Bob’s knob and met the wonderful Emily from your big day along with one other witness to make things official. It was a cold winter’s morning but when you ditch the traditional wedding get up and opt for a North Face fleece then the cold wasn’t so much an issue. Once the ceremony was finished and the documents signed we all ate cake for breakfast and then wandered along the tree lined bay for a few more photos and to search for some sunshine.
I’m a massive advocate for doing what feels best for you when planning your wedding, just because it’s tradition doesn’t mean you should conform if it doesn’t align with your values. I loved every minute of Katy and Tom’s celebration because they stayed true to themselves. More of this please!
